Current PhD Students

Amin Shojaei (amin.shojaei at ku.edu)

Amin is currently pursuing a PhD in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at the University of Kansas. He completed his MSc and BSc in Electrical Engineering-Control at Iran University of Science and Technology in 2015 and 2012, respectively. Amin's research focuses on machine learning, reinforcement learning, and distributed control. His current research centers on the development of robust and scalable multi-agent reinforcement learning techniques for cyber-physical systems. Additionally, he gained valuable internship experience as a data scientist at the Electric Power Engineers (EPE) company in 2022 and 2023. In his leisure time, he enjoys spending time with his family, playing volleyball, camping, and watching football games.

 

Sravan reddy Chintareddy (sravan.ch at ku.edu)

Sravan is a PhD candidate in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at the University of Kansas. He earned his MSc in Electrical and Computer Engineering from New York University, Brooklyn, USA, in 2020 and his M.Tech in Electrical Engineering from the India Institute of Technology, Hyderabad, India, in 2017. Sravan’s research focuses on developing data-driven solutions for spectrum sensing and sharing for UAV applications. In his free time, he enjoys spending time with family, watching movies, and playing badminton.

 

Arman Ghasemi (arman.ghasemi at ku.edu)

Arman is currently pursuing a PhD in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at the University of Kansas. He holds an MSc from the University of Tehran and a BSc from Iran University of Science and Technology in Electrical Engineering. Arman's research focuses on machine learning, reinforcement learning, renewable energy integration in smart grids, and forecasting. In 2023, he interned as an electrical engineer at Tesla. In his free time, he enjoys family activities, workouts, outdoor activities, soccer, watching movies and TV shows, and catching football games.

 

Babak Badnava (babak.badnava at ku.edu)

Babak is a Computer and Information Sciences PhD candidate at the University of Kansas. Babak received his MSc in Artificial Intelligence and Robotics from Iran University of Science and Technology in 2017 and his BSc in Software Engineering from Payame Noor University in 2014. Babak’s research interest spans the areas of edge computing, quality of service assurance, video streaming, and applications of machine learning in these areas. Besides research, Babak is currently leading a student organization called I2S Student Organization (ISO) that aims to provide extracurricular opportunities for graduate students to enhance their grad school experience. In his spare time, Babak enjoys working out, archery, and having philosophical/theological debates with his friends.

 

Masoud Ghazikor (masoudghazikor at ku.edu)

Masoud earned his BSc degree in telecommunication engineering with a minor in computer engineering from K. N. Toosi University of Technology (Iran) in 2020. In his BSc project, he focused on the restoration methods in optical fiber networks. After finishing his BSc, he started his PhD studies at the University of Kansas in 2022. He joined the WCNS group to pursue his research interests such as wireless communications, interference analysis, and UAV communication. Besides research, Masoud enjoys playing billiards, volleyball, and video games, as well as listening to rap songs and rapping in his free time!

 

Zhou Ni (zhou.ni at ku.edu)

Zhou is a PhD candidate in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at the University of Kansas. He earned his MSc in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Tufts University, Boston, USA, in 2022 and his MSc in Electrical Engineering from the Illinois Institute of Technology, Chicago, USA, in 2019. Previously, he received his BSc in Communication Engineering from the Nanchang Institute of Technology, Nanchang, China, in 2017. Zhou’s research focuses on wireless communication, game theory, federated learning, and personalized distributed learning. In his leisure time, he enjoys spending time with his family, hiking, boating, and watching football games.

 

Zara Safaeipour (fzsafaei at ku.edu)

Zara completed her Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering with minors in Telecommunication and Computer Engineering from Amirkabir University of Technology (AUT) in 2022. Her undergraduate project concentrated on applying Machine Learning techniques to enhance Mobile Networks, including areas such as Software-Defined Networking (SDN), Network Function Virtualization (NFV), Network Slicing at the core, and Edge Computing. In 2022, Zara commenced her PhD studies at the University of Kansas, joining the WCNS group. Her research focuses on leveraging applied machine learning in wireless systems, exploring semantic communication, and optimizing resource allocation in communication systems.

 

Toye Oloko (toye at ku.edu)

Toye has a BSc and MSc in Electrical Engineering from the University of Tennessee and a MSc in Computational Finance from Carnegie Mellon. He has several years' experience as an analytics consultant in the areas of risk management and process optimization. Recently he worked as an AI/Machine learning consultant applying optimization methods to predictive maintenance. He started his PhD in 2022 at the University of Kansas with research interest in online optimization and generative algorithms. He joined the WCNS group in 2023. 

 

Current Master Students

Sherwan J Abdullah (Sherwan.abdullah at ku.edu)

Sherwan is an MSc student in Electrical engineering and computer science at the University of Kansas. He finished his BSc from Al-Nahrain University in Iraq in electronics and communications engineering in 2008, and he worked for mobile operators in Iraq for 15 years (2008 to 2023) as a radio optimization engineer. His research is about developing a new open-source software (code) to collect radio connection characteristics and end-to-end network performance of mobile networks. In his free time, he enjoys talking to his family, watching movies (especially the Harry Potter series), and playing soccer.
